What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit

Preparing for Your First Visit
Patients typically visit us for the first time based on a personal reference or a referral of another health care specialist. Once you have decided to experience the benefits of chiropractic care, here is a list of what you can expect from your visit.

Paperwork
Please print and complete our new patient intake forms and bring them to your initial visit. If you are unable to finish the paperwork prior to your appointment, we ask that you arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time to complete the paperwork in our office. Make sure you bring in a photo ID and your updated insurance information, if applicable.

Consultation & History
During your initial visit, you can expect the chiropractor to provide a thorough consultation to discuss your current condition, review any pertinent health history, and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Based on the information you provide, the doctor will determine what steps to take to ensure you receive the best patient care in our office.
X-Rays
X-rays can give insight to the position of spinal bones and any other pre-existing conditions that may affect your care. However, not everyone will require x-rays during their visit. If the doctor deems them necessary, outsourced arrangements can be made or an order can be placed to your primary physician. If you are pregnant or have had recent spinal x-rays, please inform our staff.
Nervous System Scan
We use state-of-the-art technology to assess the function of your nervous system. Every new patient will receive a full nervous system scan. This procedure is non-invasive and painless. Your doctor will explain the scan fully during your consultation. This is the single most important test we do in our office in order to provide you with a detailed and personalized care plan.
Care Instructions
You may receive therapy to assist in your chiropractic adjustments. During this time, the doctor will review the findings of your exam, scans and any x-rays that may have been taken. Based on these findings, the doctor will use their discretion to determine if you will receive an adjustment on the first visit. Not everyone will receive an adjustment on their first visit. Your doctor may also give you some home care instructions.
Duration of Your First Visit
Your initial visit usually takes from 45 to 60 minutes. Most patients will receive an adjustment during their first visit, after Dr. Chapman carefully reviews the consult, exam and scan findings. Most subsequent visits will be shorter. At your second visit Dr. Chapman will access how you felt after your first initial adjustment and will suggest a schedule of care recommendation to follow personalized for your needs.

and Wellness Care
are different options that can be followed:
*Relief Care
simply means that a patient decided to come for treatment only as long as it takes to get out of pain or get symptomatic relief. Pain relief is achieved, but because the underlying spinal structural problem has not been completely corrected and stabilized, the pain/symptoms return after a period of time.
*Wellness Care
is to provide stability to your spine, it seeks to achieve long-term stability so that you can enjoy the benefit of a stable spine and a properly functioning neuromusculorskeletal system.
