What to Expect
What can I expect on my first Chiropractic visit?
Please print and complete our new patient paperwork to bring with you to your initial visit. If you are unable to complete the paperwork prior to your appointment, please arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to fill it out in the office. Make sure you bring a photo ID and your insurance (if applicable).
If you have not already met with one of our doctors for a consultation, they will do that prior to your exam. Your doctor will also ask you a series of detailed health history questions. The information you provide them will help them decide what exams and possible x-rays are needed in your case and those will be performed that day.
3. X-Rays and Nervous System Scan
Not everyone will need x-rays; however, it is common for them to be taken. These x-rays help your doctor by showing the position of the spinal bones and any other pre-existing conditions that may affect your care. If you are pregnant or have had recent spinal x-rays, please inform our staff.
We use state of the art technology to assess the function of your nervous system. Every new patient will receive a full nervous system scan. This procedure is non-invasive and painless. Your doctor will explain the scan fully during your consultation. This is the single most important test we do in our office in order to provide you with a detailed and personalized care plan.
4. Care Instructions
You may receive therapy to assist in your chiropractic adjustments. During this time, the doctor will review the findings of your exam, scans, and any x-rays that may have been taken. Depending on the findings, the doctor will use their discretion to determine if you will receive an adjustment on the first visit. Not everyone will receive an adjustment on their first visit. Your doctor may also give you some home care instructions.
5. 45 - 60 Minutes
This initial visit usually takes 45 minutes to 1 hour of time. Most subsequent visits will be much shorter. That will conclude your first visit and you will be asked to make your second appointment for the next day if possible.
6. Review Exam Findings, Scans, and X-Rays
If you do not receive an adjustment in your initial appointment, the doctor will further review your findings. It is very important to allow your doctor the time necessary to review your exam findings, scans, and x-rays. They will also formulate a care plan that is specific to your case. At your second visit they will inform you about your exam/ x-ray findings. You will also have the opportunity to discuss your care plan and specific care details with your doctor.
